Resume Tips

Making Your "Objective" Statement

This statement goes below your contact information and should be 1-2 sentences that sum up your short-term professional goals and why you're seeking employment.

Example:

"Driven college student pursuing a degree in marketing, with proven experience in social media management, event coordination, and content development. Currently seeking job and internship opportunities to leverage academic knowledge and practical skills in a dynamic marketing role."

Emphasizing Education

If your extracurricular involvement is limited, you can still strengthen your resume by emphasizing relevant coursework, class projects, and academic achievements. List specific classes that align with the role you're applying for, highlight major assignments or group projects, and showcase skills or knowledge you've gained through your studies.

Example:
Relevant Coursework:

Principles of Marketing, Consumer Behavior, Digital Advertising, Market Research

Project Highlight:

Developed a marketing strategy for a local business as part of a class project, utilizing social media analysis and customer insights to create a targeted campaign that increased engagement by 20%.

Emphasizing Involvement

If you're new to the job market and don't have many professional roles to share, include volunteer position, internship and extracurricular activities. These experiences can show you have the required skills to succeed in the position for which you're applying.

Examples:

Varsity Cheer Team, Captain: Led a team of 20 members in practices and performances, fostering teamwork, discipline, and school spirit through effective leadership and coordination.

Volunteer, Tallahassee Food Pantry: Assisted in organizing and distributing food to underserved families, contributing to efficient operations and supporting efforts to reduce food insecurity.
